Tauwetter – Tunnelwetter
Diese Woche taut es. Nebelschwaden wabern durch die Stadt, und nur selten kann ich den Fluss sehen. Dazu ein leichter Nieselregen, schon seit drei Tagen. Grau in grau. Der schöne Schnee – von gestern. Dafür vielerorts Überschwemmung. Was tun? Glücklicherweise habe ich genug zu Lesen und keine Vorlesungen. Aber in die Uni muss ich noch. Da schaut man dann auch noch die tristen Betonbauten an – wenn man unbedingt über den Campus laufen will. Aber da gibt es eine Alternative: Unter Tage verläuft ein Tunnelsystem von der Bushaltestelle zu allen Fakultäten und Wohnheimen. Ist auch Beton, aber öfter mal bunt und trocken. Und wenn man Bekannt trifft, kann man gemütlich stehen bleiben und plaudern.

Happyness – Happiness
Part of the fascination that movies hold for me is the message they convey in pictures, text and music. A good movie to me is a story well told, and although I regret that it only lasts 90 minutes – most of the time – it has dimensions that a book has not. Images – composed by a group of people – and the pleasure is even greater when I have the good fortune to live almost next door to a good (not too big, not completely hollywoodized) movie theatre. It has only 90 seats! How they continue to exist? I suppose partly because they also rent movies… and they are open 24/7.
Last fall I saw two movies about happiness which made me think about this concept. In “Pursuit of Happiness” Will Smith goes after it, working hard, overcoming all kinds of obstacles, until …the happy end. There was nothing more to say. Was he happy once he found happiness? I can only hope so. The other movie was “Emmas Glück” (Emma’s Bliss), where the happy event occurs within 15 minutes of the opening scene. The message is another one: You cannot hold on to happiness – might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
