A Universe Abounding in Galaxies

This is the International Year of Astronomy, and as I heard on the news this morning, we all get to participate in a truly beautiful astrophysical project. When I first saw pictures of galaxies, whose size is unimaginable and whose shapes are as diverse as people’s fingerprints, I wanted to know more. But most of all, I wanted to look at those photographs. I even put up some of them in my first place overseas, as a reminder that space is vaster than I can imagine, and that the dimensions of my life and all its content, including the “problems”, are negligible compared to what is going on “out there”.
